Working as Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants we see the impact that Alzheimer's has on our patients as well as their families every day. Alzheimer's disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Even more alarming? There is no cure. No medication can reverse effects or surgery to prolong this disease. 5.7 million Americans are currently living with this disease and have to endure the symptoms of memory loss, disorientation, personality changes, and loss of independence.
On Saturday, September 8th we participated in The Walk to End Alzheimer's in Hermitage, PA.
We asked our team to bring a photo of their loved one who has been affected by Alzheimer's. On our team alone, Alzheimer's prevalence dated back to 1968!
In Ohio and Pennsylvania alone there are approximately 1.2 million caregivers for those diagnosed with Alzheimer's. "Please promise me- if and when the day comes that I may forget who you are, please promise, that you wont forget that I am still me." -Mara Botonis
Overall we donated $300 to The Alzheimer's Association to help find a cure and END ALZ! Thank you to everyone who walked with us and thank you to Philadelphia Candies for the AMAZING dark chocolate candy bars!
